studies show that the region that the igbo people are from is a rainforest region, therefore more trees blocking the sun and less need for melanin production for that group. doesn’t mean they don’t have different shades across their group but there is a higher incidence of lighter skinned phenotype for igbo men and women in Nigeria

I’m a dark-skinned Igbo woman, and the obsession with claiming Igbo women are mostly light-skinned is so tiring. It’s the same energy as when Igbo men on Twitter argued that a white woman married to an Igbo man is “more Igbo” than an Igbo woman who married outside the tribe. The internalized bias and low racial self-esteem is something I’ll never understand.

I’m a dark skinned Igbo woman. We have a lot of dark skinned Igbo people but it’s also very common to see light skinned Igbo people too. All families in Igbo land have light skinned people in them. I can’t say which is the majority because I don’t have any statistics to back them up but I do know there are lot of dark skinned people as much as there are light skinned people. Also please dont ever accuse us of suffering from colonialism because we described our features. We are not a monolith. We have a lot of dark skinned Igbo people who we adore and they are beautiful too. We don’t suffer from colorism so drop the topic please.

I think this is a gross generalization. It’s definitely not all Igbo women, but there is a higher incidence of light skin in the Igbo tribe as compared to other tribes (without race mixing or bleaching)
