@themovielistpodcast: RoboCop runs on Windows. 🎬 Watch the full episode now. Link in bio. One tiny detail hidden in RoboCop changes the way you’ll see the movie. His operating system is literally MS-DOS… while the Terminator runs on Mac. It’s one of our favorite behind-the-scenes discoveries from this week’s episode. #RoboCop #MoviePodcast #FilmTrivia #BehindTheScenes #80sMovies
A clarification if you’re into this kind of thing: In 1987/88 when this came out there was no such thing as a windows operating system. MS DOS was the OS and there were early versions of windows that ran on top of it to offer a graphical user experience. Windows did not become an operating system until Windows NT 3.1, and then at the consumer level Windows 95. So he was likely running on the MS DOS 3.3 operating system.

Quicktime and Keychain are things that are Linux based not specifically Mac 😒 It makes WAY more sense if Linux was used for the Terminator coding since it is open source and would be much easier to create custom code for.
Thinking that the Terminator ran on Mac software meant that Apple was the bad guy, which their Brand Contract in movies strictly forbids 🙃

Thanks, now I can look up to Robo Cop and look down on Terminator.
Also explains why Terminator story ends up to be such a clusterfuck.

Fun fact, according to the books… robocop’s consciousness was the spark that gave life to skynet causing it to gain self-awareness and go on to create the terminators

.sys .exe are still in used and has nothing to do with DOS .... Windows simply hides these extentions these days... literally all programs have SYStem and EXEcutable files.

macOS is a Unix compliant operating system, so imo that actually makes a ton of sense. Not sure why bro needs QuickTime and a keychain, but they are sending him to the past, so it’s probably fairly useful to at least be able to decode videos.
