Some people living with HIV may experience swollen, painful, or bleeding gums. When the immune system is weakened, bacteria can easily cause gum infections, leading to discomfort and possible dental problems. 4. A dry mouth is also common among some individuals with HIV. Saliva helps protect the mouth, so having less of it can increase the risk of tooth decay, bad breath, and other infections. 5. Unusual changes inside the mouth can also be a warning sign.
