@gamesdotgg: Sony has started the process of removing paid digital content, specifically 551 movies and TV shows, from PlayStation users' digital libraries on September 1st, and it could not have come at a worse time. The titles are all distributed by StudioCanal and include films like Terminator 2, Pan's Labyrinth, Hot Fuzz, Evil Dead, and Paddington 2, all of which people paid for. No refunds or compensation are being offered. Sony's reasoning is that a content licensing agreement with StudioCanal is expiring, and under PlayStation's terms, buying content does not constitute ownership, it is a revocable licence. The news first went viral after X user @somatyk shared the notification PlayStation sent out, which reads: "As of 1 September 2026, due to our content licensing arrangements, you will no longer be able to watch any of your previously purchased StudioCanal content and the content will be removed from your video library." This is exactly the scenario people have been warning about since Sony confirmed PlayStation is going fully digital from 2028.
