🚨 YOUR CCTV CAMERA CAN BE A CYBERSECURITY RISK IP cameras aren't just cameras. They're network-connected computers that can expose video, audio, credentials and sometimes access to the wider network. Here's how the attack surface works: 📹 1. INTERNET-EXPOSED CAMERA A camera that is directly reachable from the internet can become a target for attackers looking for vulnerable devices. 🔐 2. WEAK OR DEFAULT CREDENTIALS Leaving factory credentials unchanged or using weak passwords can make unauthorized access much easier. 🌐 3. RTSP STREAMING Many IP cameras use RTSP for video streaming. If the stream is improperly exposed or protected, video could potentially be accessed by an unauthorized party. ⚠️ 4. OUTDATED FIRMWARE Old firmware can contain publicly documented vulnerabilities. Updating the camera and its associated NVR/DVR is therefore an important security measure. 🕵️ 5. NETWORK EXPOSURE Security testers can assess an organization's authorized camera network to determine which services are exposed and whether unnecessary access exists. 🛡️ HOW TO DEFEND YOUR CCTV SYSTEM • Change every default password • Use strong, unique credentials • Keep camera firmware updated • Avoid exposing camera management interfaces directly to the internet • Place cameras on a separate VLAN/network • Restrict access with firewall rules • Secure remote administration • Disable services you don't need • Monitor unusual authentication and network activity • Review RTSP/ONVIF exposure • Regularly audit the entire CCTV infrastructure An ethical hacker doesn't access somebody else's camera. The correct approach is to test cameras you own or systems where you have explicit authorization, identify the weakness, document the risk, and help the owner fix it. 🎯 The goal isn't to watch someone else's camera. The goal is to make sure nobody else can. Educational purposes only. Test only systems you own or have explicit permission to assess. #CyberSecurity #EthicalHacking #CCTV #IPCamera #IoTSecurity
