This case has consumed us for the past few weeks and one day I will write a rescue Tell-All, but for now we only have so many characters, so here are the facts. We got word of a situation in baja that had gone horribly wrong. A breeder was willing to work with rescues, but on her terms. She didn’t want to be called a puppy mill or exposed for what was happening on her property. We were, to my knowledge, the only rescue that was actually invited inside to remove dogs. We were given the dogs she called “ugly” and “weirdos.” Over a course of 2 trips in 4 days, we removed 37 dogs who crossed with us to San Diego. While cooperating with the breeder, we were simultaneously working on a plan to get every dog out. They were killing each other and dog bones and skulls were seen around the property. There was abuse, which we caught on tape. Dogs were whipped with leashes and hit with buckets and it took EVERYTHING in us to not lose it. Team members were running out to our van to cry because it was all too much. But, for the sake of the dogs, we kept it together and said we wouldn’t rest until every last one was safe. On Friday, after a wild series of events, the breeder was arrested and we were sent a message that said “COME NOW.” We dropped everything and flew. Our team went boots to the ground and removed 59 dogs from the house in the middle of the night. What we saw there will be burned into my brain forever. We found dead puppies in the freezer and cried for them and the horrors they lived through. We cried for those we loaded into our cars, knowing that for them, it was finally over. We were unable to secure all the dogs because many are so severely undersocialized and were hiding in caves they had dug out on the property. Finally, the last 13 dogs from the hoard were wrangled. We are so proud and relieved to say that we rescued 111 dogs this week, made possible with the help of @pupsnboots @shortysrescue and @losadoptablesorg . The house and property are now empty.
