@ameliabrettschulte: We found out at our anatomy scan, in February, that Luke’s limbs were severely abnormal, though we didn’t know to what extent. At the time, our doctors were convinced this was linked to a genetic condition that would likely be life limiting, but multiple rounds of extensive genetic testing revealed nothing. No diagnosis, no connection. He’s just exactly who he is supposed to be! I’ve spent months feeling daunted by the idea of raising a “different” child. I’ve asked myself (and Trent) so many times, “what if we can’t give him what he needs? What will his life look like? HOW are we going to do this?” But now that his warm little body is safely in my arms, the simple answer is so clear to me. All we have to do is love him, because he is so worthy of that. I’m not naive to the challenges we may face; I’m just committed to making sure there is more joy than anything else. Lucas is undeniably a miracle and we will be celebrating that for the rest of our lives! There is no mistake about him. My 1 of 1 boy 💙 what a gift it is to be his. Thank you Jesus for this boy!!!! #firsttimemom #miraclebaby @whitney hughes photography 💛💛💛

My husband has limb differences because of a brain tumor he had as a child. Because of him, I can confidently say that your son will grow up to be patient in ways you can't imagine, creative in how he approaches the world, deeply loving, and genuinely content with the life he builds.
Being seen as “different” can give someone a perspective on life that many people never experience. My husband has shown me that facing challenges others may take for granted can create a deeper appreciation for the little things, a bigger heart for others, and a unique way of seeing the beauty in the world. I truly believe those experiences are some of his greatest strengths.
Your son may do some things differently, but that is simply part of who he is. It will never define his worth or limit his ability to be a good man and one day a wonderful husband and father.
Life will be what he makes of it, and that is such a beautiful gift. Congratulations on your sweet little bundle of joy ❤️

I was born with congenital defects in my dominant arm, so not to the extent of this lil angel, but I live a very full life and rather normal life I often forget I’m disabled!! There are so challenges but I truly believe I’m a better person because of them. I have been asked many times would if I had the chance would I want a normal arm and hand as a child the answer was always yes because kids are mean but since my teenage years the answer has always and will always be absolutely not. Because it’s part of what makes me me, I’m so much more accepting of people then my up bringing would have taught me, it helps me to snuff out the people who don’t have pure souls as they aren’t accepting and they aren’t people I want at my table. There are disadvantages but there are also soo many advantages if you change your perspective. I really hope this for your boy, I will take time, anger, so tears but I’m sure he will get there!! I will always be grateful that my parents never allowed me to believe I couldn’t do something, always told me how cool and special my differences were, allowed me the space to be anger and get frustrated and support me. There is so many great aids now a days and prosthetics if that’s the route you choose for example I’m getting a bionic hand this month!! Best of wishes ☺️

My husband’s grandmother was born with limb differences. Her arms stopped at the elbows and she had nothing below her knees. And she accomplished so much!! Master’s degree, a teacher, wife, mom to 3, she could drive, swim, had better handwriting than most people. And she was born in the 1930s. I know your son will do great things. 🩵

Hey 😊 I was born with severely affected limbs and have always used an electric wheelchair. I want to reassure you without sounding like I’m bragging, but I have SUCH a fab life. I’ve travelled the world (Maldives, India, Caribbean - you name it, I’ve been!), I have a Masters degree, I drive a car with my head and hands only - passed my driving test first time! I have 24 hour care in my own bungalow I’ve just bought and recovered, I’m a senior manager in a large corporate organisation, I’ve got a beautiful dog, I’ve had relationships, highs, lows and everything in between. Your beautiful boy is going to be just fine and so are you ❤️
