to be fair with launch numbers, the death game activated pretty quickly. yes day one tends to be a big day on a new game but it is entirely possible that he activated the death game before alot people got home from work, and they heard it was gonna kill them before they tried it. not to mention this is japan where people dont get off work until late at night

doesn't matter it came with VR headset tech which was a tech jump that made up for limited sales. allowing people access to your brain will naturally be resisted who reasonably trusts a corporation with access to your brain, he had many medical applications to the device. point being he was starting a new likely heavily controversial tech with plenty of other potential capital ever think a paraplegic would like to be able to walk? even if only a video game that they can't distinguish from reality?

i think we are forgetting a key aspect the whole point of creating sao wasn't for the purpose of money, if it were they never would've been trapped in the first place bc that is an event that deters future buyers? Not to mention if they wanted to sell more, like let's say there goal was to make more money rather than trap ppl in the game. they would have had to scrap the trapping idea all together bc they would need more funding as well as a larger team and probably more backing from larger companies who never would have approved the idea. the sales we're set to a small number 100% due to the fact they wanted to experiment with this death game aspect vrmmo. to go any further than what they did would require much more money and power without legal actions being taken before any plan came to be.
