Once upon a time governments gave tax breaks to companies for making jobs—the personal income and sales taxes gained outweighed the breaks given. Now we just hand out tax breaks for no gains and all harms.

Help me understand this: Data Centers should fall squarely into the domain of the “not in MY backyard” irate groups that fill city and state official’s policy discussions meetings. Show me videos of your local city council meetings where the respondents are at the pulpit clamoring FOR issuing construction permits for such energy consumptive and water thirsty projects. I can comfortably advise that is NOT happening. It’s not as if data centers employ enough people to warrant consideration on THAT level, and they CERTAINLY don’t qualify for the huge tax breaks they seek. So why are our elected politicians, who are purportedly concerned with the will of their constituents giving these oligarchs a free pass to buy up huge tracts on which they intend to construct buildings that are insatiable utilities consumers and documented noise, as well as air pollution producers. Help me understand this.
