@chester.elton: What if your Head of HR and your Head of Marketing were the same person? That's exactly what Nate Brock does at Lincoln One Federal Credit Union, and the results are hard to ignore: record income, record mortgage production, record-low attrition, and more job applicants than they can handle in a county with record-low unemployment. We sat down with Nate to find out why. His answer? Word-of-mouth is still 90% of trust. And the people responsible for word-of-mouth are your employees. So HR and marketing should never be in separate silos. A few things from this conversation that stayed with us: - The best recruiting strategy is never having to recruit in the first place. Fix your culture, fix your retention, and people start coming to you. - If you spend $100 in your local community, about $70 stays there. If you don't, it drops to around $40. That's not just a credit union talking point, it's an argument for every leader who cares about the communities where their people live. - Small organizations have almost no margin for error. Nate has 44 people. Four or five bad hires is 10% of his workforce. The discipline that forces is worth studying no matter how big your team is. - A great conversation about culture, community, and what happens when your people are genuinely your brand.
