The Maine Immigrant Rights Coalition stated, "Local organization Presente! confirmed that the young man was authorized to work in the United States and had been issued a Social Security number. He was a member of our community, a neighbor, and a human being whose life was cut tragically short. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and everyone now grieving this unimaginable loss." State and federal authorities are investigating, and many critical facts have not yet been publicly established, but organizations on the ground are moving to action nonetheless.

These protests are happening because many people say they are tired of lives being lost during ICE operations and want federal immigration enforcement out of their communities. The agent involved is reportedly on leave while the investigation continues. The public wants answers, the family deserves the truth, and if the investigation finds wrongdoing, those responsible must be held accountable.
