@kathrynhatcher_: Business Insider is calling it a "mom-cession." College-educated moms with kids under 5 have dropped out of the workforce at the highest rate in years. The article points to two reasons: not enough childcare, and return-to-office mandates. Both are real. But there's a third reason nobody's naming. It's the invisible work that happens before you ever get to work. That's part of the reason I built Camply. To help with one piece of it. Helping parents find, plan, and coordinate for school break and summer camps in one place. @Camply | Kids camp planning @Business Insider #workingmoms #momfounder #childcare #mentalload #camply

Unfortunately I girl bossed too hard and make more money than my husband so I can’t quit. I’m so exhausted.

My boss said he’d never vouch for the promotion of a woman of childbearing years. So the workplace is a joke for parents because the school days and workdays are at odds

The question is why was it “working” before 2020? What has changed since then?

As long as the cost of childcare is roughly similar to the take home pay of one parent, women are going to be like why am I paying all my salary just to have someone else raise my child.

Let’s also mention: you’ll tour a daycare center and the waitlist will be 10 months. So…. Most people don’t have a job that can have them wait 10 months to patchwork childcare in the meantime. Forcing moms to quit 🫠

Yep just got fired because I’m a single mom with a 3 year old who tends to get sick. I’ve been a teacher for 10 years

We are being forced out. RTO mandates are anti-woman/anti-family

I just went back from mat leave a month ago and I’m so burned out and stressed. Like I can’t handle it anymore and just want to focus on raising my child

I was working when I had my kid. My bosses were a little out of touch regarding the demands on pumping. My job required me to be on camera so I needed to strategically manage my time so I could pump and then go back on camera. They wouldn’t work with me so I had no choice but to leave the workforce. At that time, my kid would not latch and there was a formula shortage. As a new Mom, it felt like food scarcity stress. So pumping was the best option at the time for my family. I wanted so bad to stay in the workforce but what can you do? I do think there needs to be more women advocacy.

It’s also harder the older they get! The options are less and they’re expensive and they all end at 3! And then your kids want to do activities and they all start at 3:30!

They are also pulling back on working from home and flexibility. My team was more productive from home and I didn’t have to commute. I will be leaving, my son is already in daycare 9 hours a day and I refuse to lose 2 more hours a day to commute and park a mile from a shitty office to sit on zoom from a cube.

Or maybe because during the school year we’d have to take a sick day or vacation day if the kids are out of school. Or summer when they’re home. If I didn’t work from home I don’t think I’d be able to work

I didn’t leave by choice! I was demoted a week after announcing my pregnancy after a very successful year as an executive. They gave me the option to come back in a junior position after maternity leave. It was humiliating and so damaging to my mental health I left before I could be forced out. Corporate America HATES moms and a lot of times it’s older women in power who are the worst.
