I’ve gotten this remark a few times, and I understand it, I do. I had worked tirelessly for years to be the woman I was expected to be flawlessly. My perfectionism and denial, drove me to perform femininity, and I did it well. What others didn’t see, were the constant panic attacks about my looks. The near obsessive approach I had to being the best “woman,” whatever that really means. And the discomfort I learned to normalize, suppress, and ignore that took place in my body every. single. day. I am so thankful for the woman I was, she made me who I am today, but I am not her anymore, and for the first time in my life- I feel truly free, present, and alive in my body.
