This is why “be my peace” sends me running in the other direction

I’ve started asking my husband, “what have you done to make my life better or easier today?”

Men want to have/own a wife and children. They don’t want to BE a husband or a father.

I spent 18 years "comforting" him. You know what it got me? Exhaustion, depression, and health problems. And in the end, he still cheated and abandoned me for her. Now I am the only one I comfort.

And the cherry on the cake is we still get cheated on because their “needs” aren’t being met. Unreal.

More men are starting to recognize this, and that's really great.
But personally I don't care any more 😆 every one to their own at this point in my life.

That’s why fewer and fewer young women want a husband. There’s something about unpaid labor that not as appealing as men think it is.

I’m 66 yrs old. Even as a kid I watched the men amongst my relatives sit & watch tv while the women cooked, set tables, etc. Then the men got up to eat & eventually went back to the tv while the women cleaned up. And even then I thought “this is bullshit!!”

Mine told me that we can pay for someone to do everything I do. Like dude…I worked around the kids’ schedules. I took them to work with me all while having to take care of the home and be bashed for the things the kids did. It sucked.

I think this also extends into men being such crabs about going out to do something as a family together, because it's not what *they* want to do. And why should he ever have to make an effort for something that isn't *his* preference?

and we as women are socialized to prioritize the needs of others over our own. This is why we especially need to be cared for in heterosexual relationships though rarely receive. Moms are often last to eat at the dinner table after serving the family, for instance. You’ll see families out at restaurants where mom is feeding the kids or the kids are all over her and I see dad sitting there eating his meal kid-free.

The sad part is that comfort doesn’t translate into happiness or fulfillment. Doing for others does.

Thank you for framing it this way - the socialization piece is rooted in patriarchy/misogyny. Living above the domestic chaos is only possible when you consider *yourself* to be more important or valuable than the other humans who live in the household with you.
