@ciciinthesky: The overhead bin debate… let’s clear up a few common misconceptions. ✈️ As a flight attendant, I hear the same comments on almost every trip: 🧳 “Someone took my overhead bin!” Here are a few things many travelers don’t realize: ✔️ On most airlines, overhead bins in the main cabin are shared space rather than assigned to individual seats. ✔️ Premium cabins, such as First Class, Business Class, or some premium economy sections, may have overhead bin space reserved for passengers seated in those cabins as one of their benefits(but it’s still shared in that cabin) ✔️ If you have both a roller bag and a backpack, purse, or laptop bag, place your larger carry-on in the overhead bin and your smaller personal item under the seat in front of you whenever possible. It leaves room for another passenger’s carry-on. ✔️ Not every overhead bin is available for passenger luggage. Some may be reserved for emergency equipment, crew equipment, or other operational needs. ✔️ If a crew member asks you to place your bag a few rows away, it’s usually because they’re trying to maximize the available space so more passengers can keep their carry-on bags with them instead of gate-checking them. ✔️ If your bag ends up behind your seat, the safest and fastest option after landing is to wait until the aisle begins to clear before moving back to retrieve it. Every airline has its own procedures, boarding process, and carry-on policies, so always follow the instructions of the flight crew and check your airline’s website before you travel.
