@macieswack: The squat doesn’t start when you descend, it starts with how you set up the bar. A proper Olympic squat rack setup improves safety, confidence, and performance before you ever take your first rep. Here’s how I set up every back squat: 🏋️ Adjust the J-hooks to shoulder height so you can unrack the bar with a slight knee bend. 🏋️ Warm up with the empty 45 lb bar to groove your movement pattern, increase muscle temperature, and prepare your nervous system for heavier loads. 🏋️ Load the plates evenly on both sides. 🏋️ Secure every plate with collars to prevent unwanted movement and improve stability during your lift. 🏋️ Brace your core, create a strong upper back “shelf,” and take a controlled walkout before starting your set. The back squat is one of the most effective compound exercises because it trains multiple muscle groups at once, including your: glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings, adductors (inner thighs), calves, spinal erectors, and core. Building strength in these muscles doesn’t just make your legs stronger, it improves athletic performance, balance, posture, bone density, and your ability to perform everyday movements like sitting, standing, climbing stairs, lifting, and carrying with greater ease. Strong glutes and quads also play a major role in knee stability and lower-body power, while a properly braced core helps protect your spine under heavier loads. Mastering your setup is just as important as mastering your squat. The stronger your foundation, the stronger and safer your lifts become. 💪 Save this for your next leg day and send it to someone who’s still figuring out the squat rack. #backsquat #strengthtraining #legday #gymtips #fitnesseducation
