I felt this to my core! You can’t hurt my feelings because I grew up with a toxic family that constantly did as a little girl. This makes me idolize you even more because I can relate to your hardships. My fiancé is a saint. He is so patient as I unlearn toxic behavior from all that I knew. He is teaching me what healthy love, communication, and most importantly what it is like to have a healthy disagreement with your significant other. My nervous system has never felt so at peace. Krissy, I don’t think I’ve ever liked someone online as much as I like you, and I’m definitely not someone who comments often. But I just had to say how much I admire how honest and unapologetically yourself you are. What you said really resonated with me because it’s the reality for so many of us. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever heard my dad tell me he loves me. But when I moved from Greece to the UK on my own, he stood on the balcony crying as I was leaving. That was the moment I knew he loved me. I think it’s quite common in Albanian families. I truly believe our fathers love us deeply,, they just don’t always know how to express it because of the way they were raised. When you spoke about your parents not talking to you because of who you chose to marry and have children with, Unfortunately, that’s something that happens far too often in the Albanian community, especially when a woman’s choices don’t align with her parents’ expectations or traditional mindset. I’m so glad you had the strength to choose the life that was right for you. At the end of the day, it’s our life to live, and we have to be brave enough to make our own decisions. Our parents won’t always agree with the choices we make, and that’s okay. I honestly think experiences like these have shaped you into the incredible woman you are today. I grew up with friends that were daddys little girls. But i was far from it. As a kid i was heart broken. Grew up in a house where my parents hated eachother. Never seen them even hug each other. Fast fwd, I graduated nursing school twice- and my parents never came. Turned on me many times because i wouldnt help them financially... had to CUT them out. Im self made. Proud of that now.
