I don't expect the exact results as actual technicolor, but an ATTEMPT would be nice. Films are so boring and gray now and that's a choice that's being made.

oh, come on. Nolan can destroy three IMAX cameras and waste 1,500,000$. They can hire the Rock and pay him a bajillion dollars. Zach Snyder cab build a massively expensive batcave for a shitty movie. But suddenly if we want to build an old camera, or get a good special effects team to recreate it digitally, "it's impossible!!". Come on dude. They simply don't want to. If they wanted they would find a way.

I get annoyed when I hear people say that the Technicolor process is impossible now as if it’s some magical knowledge that’s been lost to time. It’s not. They could easily revive the process and build cameras for it and do the same printing process and everything. The problem is money. Film stock is at a premium now and Technicolor used three times the film stock of a regular film, and most filmmakers don’t use film anymore so it’s considered a special luxury. And no one’s gonna spend the hundreds of millions of dollars to build a new printing facility when digital is so cheap. So it’s not impossible, just unfeasible. In Hollywood’s eyes at least.

it's mike hand animation it is expensive and requires expertise that has been lost to time/those who could revive would require a paygrade no studio ca. justify when movies arent profitable as they used to be due to quick easy media and entertainment like social media

I agree w the comments mad at the lack of attempt. The first Harry Potters were full of color and light that really immersed the viewer, everything is dark and moody to the point it's impossible to watch it outside the theater

I get what you are saying, but Technicolor has become a catchall word to mean - a colorful film. I think people are just so tired of everything being washed out, or blue.

Lol I’m dying at the comments saying you didn’t explain why we don’t use it anymore like you didn’t go into detail how it’s expensive, required tons of intense lighting and larger cameras. This is why our listening skills need to be practiced because it’s obvious that studios found cheaper ways to produce film.

I rewatch films in technicolor VERY often because it just stimulates my brain so much more. Any film with unique color grading heavily attracts me.

Honestly, they don’t need to make Technicolor films again.. They just need to emulate them with color grading now like they’re doing with Dune because the color grading trend of making things too bright or too dark not vibrant enough colors, this trend the last decade or so is just ugly and looks like commercial

The irony is that this was considered a flaw back then. Costumes and sets needed to be designed with desaturated colours so they wouldn’t over expose. Now we do the opposite and design sets and costumes that pop and desaturate it in post. How ironic.

i think people are really bumping on it in recent years bc everything is shooting on LED volumes now. For Dune 1 & 2 desaturation was an intentional choice because bright, saturated color/light does not play well with the projected CG environments/imagery on an LED volume. Imo the desaturation actually works really well for Dune story-wise, it ruined Wicked though visually.
