No spell slots, but my Barbarian can still cast spells. Aasimar with the Sage background. Being able to cast Mage Armor on myself is awesome. Plus I get 3 cantrips and Healing Hands.

Rules clarification, can you go over casting with somatic components? I’m 99% sure I figure it out but, Can you use the hand you are holding your spellcasting focus in - to preform your somatic gestures?

that's why I never call them spell lvl to new players. I tell them to think of them more of categories. Like fireball is a Category 3 spell.

You unlock spell levels at odd levels. Level 1 you get 1st level spells, level 3 you get 2nd level, level 5 you get 3rd level, and so on

It’s not in the rules anywhere, but thinking of them as something other than “spell levels” helps. Spell rank, spell order, etc

I understood it to be that for every time you reach an odd number character level, a new gate of higher spells gets unlocked for you to access.

it's pretty easy to explain the spell lvl vs player lvl disparity, it's just every other player lvl lol. odd player lvls get new spell lvls, 1 gets 1 then 3 gets 2 then 5 gets 3, so on and so on
