For everyone who says its white privilege, I am a very Arab/Middle Eastern looking male with a large beard and was also taken aback by being called sweetheart, darling, or baby by a waitress. Also, a couple offered to pay for my gas when I was having issues with my card. I can verify this is true.

as a person who lives in this town I hate that this awesome story is being used as some kind of gotcha moment from republicans. Alabama does have awesome hospitality and amazing people within it but let's not act like all people receive the exact same kind of hospitality from everyone they meet here.

Funny how this makes Democrats so mad. I'm Hispanic and my family and I have always been received well in southern states. Georgia and this summer we went to South Carolina. Some of the friendliest people we've ever met.

Don't get it twisted, it's because they were white. I've lived in the South my whole life. People here can be the nicest, most generous folks you'll ever come across, so long as you look like them, worship like them, and vote like them. It's gotten marginally better. If you don't look like them, you have to work like hell, but if you can prove that you're "one of the good ones," you might be able to get by with some of them not being openly racist to you. If you don't worship like them, or vote like them, watch your back.
