@streetsforall: Three inexpensive things LA could do today on our High Injury Network (the 6% of streets that cause 70% of injuries and deaths) that would dramatically improve safety: 1 - Ban right turn on red 2 - Make LPIs standard 3 - Eliminate beg buttons
As a driver and a walker in LA, I hate right on red and would be thrilled if it was banned. People behind me act so insane when I wait for the green light to turn. Some have even pulled around me, which is even more dangerous.

Most important thing they can do his ticket pedestrians for walking in the street when they’re not supposed to that’s probably 30% of the injuries maybe more

Having a series of greens is way more efficient coming from a New Yorker. Help traffic and so many things overall. Wilshire in Santa Monica it’s start /stop at every light. It’s insane and make drivers more aggressive

How about we start with more officers enforcing the laws? The biggest issues of reckless driving. By my house the freeway exit is no right turn on red and every car turns on the red. My old house had a no left turn onto 6th st near labrea and car after car turn left? I witnessed dozens and dozens of accident and the city still did not enforce the laws.

People that turn right on red only look left for cars, and never to the right for pedestrians, and end up killing people. I would love it if this city showed that it cared about pedestrians. Ban right on red.

100% agree that streets need to be safer for walkers. I was hit by a car making a right turn while crossing the street. If they add ✨Bike Lanes✨ than that would push the right turn lane further away from the curb, forcing drivers to slow down before they turn.

Leading pedestrian signals is great! Buttons are definitely a necessity, given how rarely some of those pedestrian crossings are used, and the right turns on red make up a large part of people's commutes, so u gotta lose those two arguments. This sounds like a new yorker who just moved to LA and doesn't really get it....

As a pedestrian I almost get hit by people turning right on melrose and Fairfax all the time. They see green and just floor it.

People saying no to turn on red in these comments….imma assume yall are considerate of pedestrians. But not everyone is and if putting more of those signs increases safety for pedestrians….so be it? ✨

I live a block off melrose and not having pedestrian crosswalks at every intersection is maddening, makes walking even to shops 1/4 mile away dangerous and slow asf

This is the lowest common denominator dragging everybody down. The vast majority of people manage to make a right turn without hitting anything or anyone. Pushing a walk button is really common sense. Just like having the advanced walk sign is.
