If she completely pays off his debt with her own money he’s the only one benefitting. He has his name on everything he’s paying for so if he were to leave OP she would be out of pocket. All of her money spent on debt in HIS NAME and her name isn’t on the house.

A split in finances is one thing saying all her money goes to the grandparents is another.

so OP said she wants to split bills equally but fiance won't let her and instead just wants her to pay for the loan...

Being engaged is NOT the same as being married. She could pay off this car, he could dump her, and she ends up with nothing after she paid it off.

Completely. She should pay 50/50 bills and have the rest go to her own money. Grandparents shouldn't be forcing a disabled stay at home mum getting back into the work force to pay her ENTIRE pay check when they are living PAY CHECK TO PAY CHECK 😭

it's HIS car In HIS name. if they break up tomorrow, she gets nothing from her paying off HIS DEBT.

I think I kind of get what the fiancé is saying in that if she were to take her whole paycheck and give it to my grandparents, we could pay off this debt within a year and only have to live paycheck to paycheck for another year, however, since they’re not married, and she has no legal stake in this vehicle, they gotta figure something out, put her name on the title of the vehicle so it’s in both their names

Break down the bills and pay 50/50. Anything more is meant to isolate her financially.

I get fiance saying instead of splitting bills just take the amount and pay it to the debt. It’s the same thing just no extra steps. It’s ridiculous to expect all of op’s income to go into paying off the bill unless both incomes go into one shared account 100% all of it seems too much

He chooses not to pay the insurance how the heck is she gonna control that? All she can do is be like that bill is coming up make sure you pay it and be like ok. If you don't pay it she can't do nothing about that what is she supposed to do? You need to remember she has no control of the money that he makes I promise you. Again exactly why she needs to have her own so she can be more responsible not have to rely on him. Come on

I have an interesting perspective. My fiancé’s car broke down. We bought a car using loans from family. 10k from his family, 6k from mine. We were both very low income and needed a car because we lived in a rural area. He refused to put the car in my name, or add me to the title. When I got some money I paid my family back and tried to pay his, his family forgave the loan as a “forward” on his future inheritance. I then continued to be the only one paying for insurance and upkeep (tired, repairs, etc). My name was never on the title. When he died suddenly without a will we were fucked with the car because I wasn’t on the title and it would have needed to go to court to get the car.

I do agree she has to help if she is using the car, BUT THERE'S TWO PROBLEMS WITH THAT, first one HE DIDN'T PAID the insurance, which means he created the debt, not her. And two, why she would pay for the car if only HIM own it? The he will sell the car and keep the money and tell her is on his name. Unless he put the car on both names, then no, no help. Evn more because is a premarital asset, so she won't get a cut in case of a divorce, and even so, he could cancel the engagement and she won't get anything. Nope.

the grandparents also could have not bought a brand new car. buy a decent used one for maybe max 12,000 so the debt isnt as bad

Depends on if he actually has her on the policy or not imo. She can’t force him to add her and if that’s the case then it’s all on him.. he’s a grown adult who knows how much and when each of his bills are due. When living paycheck to paycheck, there are simply some bills that you don’t play around with, insurance being a main one.

If anything, I would be like “cool, but put the car entirely in my name first then” lol

Absolutely not I do not agree with the fact that her agreed to go ask his grandparents for help with the car and her using it is completely irrelevant the agreement was made between the grandparents and the grandson. Point blank again irrelevant that we've been using it I mean, the kid that's getting taken to a doctors appointment does he need to chip in now too or??? if that's what we're doing around here

ok so I'm not a driver but doesn't restitution mean the car accident was his fault??? so the debt is 100% on him

The car is in his name, they're not married.I wouldn't recommend to pay them until the car is in her name. They're family so that's not a big problem?😁

So like I go as my best friend hey do you think it's a good idea if I borrow $2000 for my parents and tell them I'll pay it back? And they respond and yeah that's a great idea yeah I would ask them. And then when my parents ask for me to start paying it back do I go hit that friend of and be like hey you need to pitch in monthly as well? I mean if that's how we're thinking right

You have to pay off debts first. Also the first op was a sahm, him not paying off the insurance was probably due to not having enough money to pay the bills and that’s one bill easy to cut. Especially because they are living pay check to pay check. However the loan and the car directly benefit the first op cause it keeps the finance in work and also pay the bills that includes op living expenses because she was a sahp. Now that the loan is due she should be helping pay bills and payback the loan and car. Fiancé should also be helping out at home and childcare. You share the burden.

The fact that they want her to basically work for free and be OK with it is a while concept. Like dang they can't have nothing
