I use this lovingkindness reminder image to help me think through the main wishes of loving-kindness meditation. This is my #wildandbrave version of the ancient “meta” practice (this was before Facebook guys) where you practice mindfully “wishing well” people you love, community members you don’t know well, even enemies or those you fear. Emotions of fear, anxiety, or powerlessness can undermine our well being, wear us down in our body, and fray our relationships. Using #lovingkindnessmeditation to release and process those feelings is a way to help our hearts and minds get a different sort of grip on the situation. — The sick friend you can’t “fix” could use your lovingkindness. — The hard-to-tolerate coworkers you “can’t change” could use your lovingkindness. — The fair-weather friend who comes and goes from your life could use your lovingkindness. But above all, YOU could use your lovingkindness. Research done in the labs of Dr. Barbara Fredrickson show that among many other benefits, practicing this form of meditation has impacts on your cellular health. The impact was clear enough, measurable enough that you can say the impact on your telomeres (part of how we measure our age at a cellular level) is to turn back the clock! Whether you care about being younger in six months than you are right now or not, practicing this kind of mindfulness can help you right now. Wherever you are. To unhook from stress and anxiety looping. It can give your heart and mind a break. It can let your soul breathe by connecting you to the kind of nutritious emotions that feed you at your core and make room for good things today and tomorrow. Start by bringing someone you love to mind, to warm up your heart. Repeat each wish, imagining it for that person. Then be brave and send the wishes to someone related to what might be causing you pain or stress. Don’t leave yourself out— the “just as I wish to” lets you connect to your own needs and use them to broaden and deepen your emotional resources for others. So as I post this, I’m sending these wishes to you. Just as I wish to, may you feel safe and protected. Just as I wish to, may you feel happy and peaceful. Just as I wish to, may you feel healthy and strong. And may you live with ease. ~Coach Morgan #LKM #LiveBrave This one is for you @Rexhina 🫶🏼
