13+ on the PD side….10’9 us & tell us to slow down/speak up, etc. until you’re comfy. You getting the info you need is FAR more important than an officer feeling pissy bc something gotta be repeated. You got it! 👌🏾🫶🏾

Radio ear does take time, but honestly imma have you repeat if I didn’t understand. Cause if I don’t understand and it’s something that could put you or others around you in danger? I’m not assuming or playing 😂

I’m pd and sometimes it just rolls off the tounge especially if it’s something we doing constantly like traffic stops, descriptions, case numbers but 10-9 they ass friend cause imma do it to yall everytime lol

It’s going to get easier the more you do it and learn your officers voices and typing fast makes a world of difference. But I’m all for 10/9 them it’s for their safety and you being able to say you know what they said.

You control your air . If you miss something tell them to repeat it or when they give the info just come back and say “ you can go with your info now”. They’ll get sick of repeating what they say and they will learn how you work. DO NOT use this tactic during an emergency. Good luck

Girl i work in Atlanta but not for APD, it just come with time once you been released from training and doing it solo for a min maybe a year it’ll be way easier. They gon always talk fast. ts never is gonna stop. But when they get to talking slow just know they tryna be funny.

Girl YOU are in charge of that radio lol 10-9 everybody who does it. From experience they do it on purpose. Our deputies have told us “it’s a sink or swim type of job we go fast” tf no it ain’t lol we 10-9 around here 🤷🏻♀️🤪

Run your radio.. 10-9, ask them to repeat it at all times. Officer safety , you will start to recognize the runners on your channels , they gotta trust you.

learn your intersections, town limits, and harder to pronounce or commonly mispronounced street names. Most CADs, you can type the first three letters then hit TAB and it will autofill if it's a valid address. So 123 Apple St, type 123 App and it will validate. Cross Streets like Apple St and Washington Rd - App/Was: if they interest, you can get it in faster. Learn your shortcut keys!!!
