@_bodiedbybri: If you hear me reminding Milann to stop holding her breath, it’s because breath-holding is part of her Rett syndrome. While it’s often out of her control, it can also be her way of telling me she’s uncomfortable, frustrated, tired, or wants something she can’t communicate in that moment. So I’m always paying attention to what she’s trying to tell me. After that, it’s time for one of my favorite parts getting my girl dressed and making sure she feels beautiful. To my fellow special needs parents: never underestimate the power of the little things. Taking the time to brush their hair, moisturize their skin, pick out a cute outfit, and make them feel special matters.
