![Where do you go when the world stops making sense? They pull you by the collar, upward, through meadows so saturated with wildflowers that the color feels aggressive, almost accusatory. The Fagaraș range stretches over 70 kilometers and holds more than 150 glacial lakes, relics of an ice age that left its fingerprints everywhere you look. The green here isn’t decorative. It is insistent, biological, a living argument for paying attention. Pink blooms of rhododendron and saxifrage cling to rock faces above the treeline, and then, further up, the ridgeline splits into deep crevasses, shadowed corridors of compacted snow and old ice that resist the warmth of summer like a quiet, stubborn refusal. There is something in those dark clefts between the peaks that feels primordial, a reminder that beneath all the softness of petals and grass, the mountain is still made of cold stone and geological patience. The Fagaraș holds Moldoveanu Peak, Romania’s highest point at 2,544 meters, yet the summits reveal themselves not as triumphant towers but as fractured, intimate things.
