An Additional District and Sessions Court in Rawalpindi on Tuesday sentenced Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) leader and influential landlord Farrukh Khokhar to life imprisonment after convicting him in the high-profile murder case of PTI leader and transport union activist Majid Satti. The court also sentenced co-accused Ameer Hamza and Haider Nawaz to life imprisonment. Each convict was fined Rs1 million as compensation. Another accused, Waseem, was acquitted after the court extended him the benefit of the doubt. Following the verdict, police immediately took Farrukh Khokhar into custody from the courtroom and shifted him to Adiala Jail under tight security. The judgment was announced amid heightened security at the judicial complex, where supporters of both the victim and the accused had gathered. The case relates to the killing of PTI leader and transport union activist Majid Satti, who was shot dead in Rawalpindi’s Sadiqabad area in August 2022. Prosecutors alleged that the murder stemmed from a property dispute. The trial continued for nearly three years before the court delivered its verdict. Farrukh Khokhar is the son of the late Taji Khokhar, a prominent political figure and influential landowner from Rawalpindi. He was previously associated with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) before joining Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), where he became active in local politics. His name had remained in the spotlight since his arrest and subsequent court proceedings in the Majid Satti murder case.
