When she sings Cabaret, Sally is at her lowest and trying to convince herself AND the audience that things are great and wonderful and lavish. When she says “life is a cabaret” she’s telling the audience she’s here for a good time and that life is glamorous when truthfully it’s not. Shes telling the audience to ignore what’s happening and to close their eyes and cover their ears. But even the performance shows how it’s all a lie; although she starts the song singing, when she makes her decision, she yells the lyrics more than sings.
