Art is just about connections. You can quite literally vomit on a canvas and sell it for $20,000. It’s your name you’re selling, not your art. There are amazingly talented artists and most of them are teaching intro to art at their local high school. Or working a 9-5 and putting their art up on instagram.

My grandmother died in 2004. Recently my aunt died, and at her estate sale, two people bought paintings. My grandmother had made. My grandmother is now a commercial artist more than 20 years after her death. What makes you a commercial artist is someone being willing to pay for your work.

commercial art aka illustration is totally different then fine art. MOST fan artists are interested in jobs in commercial art not fine art. we use our art for merchandise or publishing.

I just wanna say as someone doing an art degree this guy is 1000% right. is he being an asshole about it? yeah I agree but nothing he says here is wrong. While I can agree this guy is up his own ass if you are wanting a career in art fanart and anime styles are often looked down upon. it's a sad truth like capitalism or billionaires but it is the truth.
