there are a myriad of legitimate things to complain about in modern gaming. loot boxes, microtransactions, and list DLC, the rising cost of games, companies trying to go fully digital, sitting down servers for games to make them completely unplayable with no alternative, games releasing in terribly bugged out States. there's so much to complain about but he didn't manage to hit a damn thing. it's like missing the broad side of a barn with a cannon

He has a type of game he likes all very samesie if you ask me. (There were good games in his list don't get me wrong, but there were a ton of awesome games during that time that weren't shooters or mmo's). It's much more diverse now, for everyone something just not so much catered to his specific and a bit narrow type of game anymore

there's an honest argument for the 2000s/early 2010s being the golden age of video games because it was the last point before monetization went crazy. it started with microtransactions in mobile games and eventually ramped up to now where it costs $100 to get the whole game and gachas pull every trick to drain your bank account. he... did not make that argument

there are more game developers/designers than there are large studios hiring, so of course this is going to result in independent Studios. also game development has become far more accessible than it was, unreal engine and blender are free

Honestly I dont think they're entirely wrong. Some of those games were amazing and I struggle to find anything I like as much or better. But there are still really good games coming out. My gaming goes back much further and I would consider a golden age of gaming to be the mid to late 90's but modern games are bigger and take longer to produce and are also really good. Just different
