They come from a man who once questioned nearly every Catholic teaching. As a Presbyterian pastor and theologian, Scott Hahn believed many of the common objections to Catholicism. Marian devotion, the Eucharist, the papacy—he challenged them all. Yet he did something that every sincere seeker of truth should do: he kept studying. The deeper he searched the Scriptures, the more he discovered that the Catholic faith was not an invention of men but the faith handed down from the Apostles. The Mary he had once misunderstood became the Mary of the Bible—the New Eve, the Ark of the New Covenant, the Mother given to us by Christ from the Cross. In many ways, Scott Hahn reminds me of Saul of Tarsus. Saul fiercely opposed the early Church until he encountered the Truth he had been resisting. He did not lose his zeal, God redirected it. The same passion that once fought the Church became the passion that defended it. Scott Hahn’s story is strikingly similar. Everything he once questioned, he now explains. Everything he once opposed, he now defends. Everything he once rejected, he now teaches with conviction. His journey is a powerful reminder that truth has nothing to fear from honest investigation. If we seek Christ sincerely, with humility and an open heart, He will always lead us where He wants us to be.
