@henrykapata_: The 135 megawatt Phase One coal fired thermal power plant under construction in Mukuni Chiefdom, Kazungula District, has reached about 80 per cent completion, with technical commissioning expected in October 2026. Construction of the project began in May 2025 after Guoli Energy Zambia Limited obtained the required approvals from the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) and the Energy Regulation Board (ERB). The project has already created more than 300 jobs during the current construction phase. A second 135 megawatt phase is scheduled for commissioning in June 2027, bringing the plant’s total installed generation capacity to 270 megawatts, with provision for future expansion. The investment forms part of President Hakainde Hichilema’s commitment to increase Zambia’s electricity generation capacity to 10,000 megawatts under the 10-10-5-3-3-1-1 Development Framework, with new generation projects already moving from policy to implementation across the country.#power #Zambia #electricity
