You are right when you say investment is not a source of income in the short run but it can be in the long run. Let's assume you have about 80-90m as capital after like 10-15 years of capital building and you reinvest same capital at an interest rate of 15-17%, that's over 15m. You can easily use that ROI to venture into other business or investments which gives you value. Overall, Investment becomes a source of income when you capital gets to a certain level your ROI can be used to venture into other business which will have a positive multiplier effect on your life as a person
