We talk about women who are married yet single (and lonely), but we don’t talk enough about the men whose lifestyles haven’t changed a bit from before they married. They keep their friends, their hobbies, their free time and their money. Their wives and kids are props.

You did 100% of the work of a trad wife, but you weren't a trad wife in the sense people often mean in that you didn't make videos glamorizing being a trad wife, trying to recruit other women to do the same, and demonizing anything else!

I did all of that and worked a full time job on top of it. Still got accused of cheating. Like with what time? I decided to leave when I realized he was just like an extra kid..and I would be better off alone because I was, essentially, alone anyway..Just without the constant ingratitude and projected accusations.

i never considered myself a trad wife but I did stay home with my kids when they were young (I thought I was different because I had a professional degree, got my license, paid off my student loans, and set up a nest egg for returement before having kids in my 30s). But in my experience, men do less and less as time goes on. They weaponize incompetence themselves out of one thing after another until 5-10 years later you are doing way more than the everything you were initially doing.

I hear you. I haven’t experienced the level of hostility and selfishness you have—mine was always more cluelessness and umderfunctioning rather than malicious refusal—but what you’re saying is completely on the nose. I did and do enjoy aspects of that life. I love to garden, and cook from scratch. I even think I made cheez-its! lol. But you’re so right—it’s not sustainable. It’s exhausting and lonely and heartbreaking. And when you realize help is not coming, it’s devastating.

I keep wondering how things are going when he has the kids now…does he now do anything with/for them, has he learned to step up and engage with them? My hope for them is that he’s developing his relationships with them
