I grew up in the West End of Ottawa pretty close to downtown. For the last eight years I’ve been living in rural Ottawa working in rural Ottawa. My boyfriend has been working pretty much downtown Ottawa and he comes home and tells me all this and I don’t see it because it’s not like that where I am in Ottawa and then he’ll show me videos of all the homelessness and all the stuff that he needs and I’m like wow that’s not the Canada that I remember it never was like that and it’s only changed within the last eight years. I have no desire to ever go downtown Ottawa again before that I would love to go downtown.

Standing up and applauding, I am twice an immigrant I moved to Canada from the UK when I was 12 and moved to the US when I was 52. Assimilation was the only option for me. I left there to come here because here offered me more than there. Don’t want to make here like there or here will offer me no more than there.

I’m an immigrant came to Canada with my parents with nothing. My father worked as a dishwasher, he had to put bread bags in his shoes because they had holes in them. We asked for nothing expected nothing and he accomplished his Canadian dream. We speak both Italian and English. We loved this country and for the first time In 50 years I wonder wtf are we doing here it’s not the same
