It reminds me of how in the LDS church, they give you a "calling from God" which is literally just an unpaid job for the church, and tell you that you have the choice to not accept it- but if you turn it down, you are saying no to what God wants you to do. So of course people rarely say no because it is someone frowned upon and you are judged by the ward for being unfaithful if they find out.

Do you think it’s kind of another way of control to make sure you do not marry the guy or boy you have a crush on? Because I don’t think the point is for the girls to be happy. And also, if you have a crush on that person and jealousy might be a bit of a issue.
