Yeah I had this happened to me when a company had a big announcement at 4:30 pm that make the stock tank and my short was assigned and I got a call from my broker, scary situation and I was pissed thinking, hey it was otm at the close .. well not till 5:30 pm est 🥵

This happened to me and I never realized why. So, I’ve learned something new. Thanks! However, THIS IS TOTALLY UNFAIR! If the option holder has until 5:30 PM, then the account holder should be able to trade until 5:30 as well. Who dreamed up this SCAM???

.03 is one thing 😅 i remember in 2018 around Christmas when afterhours sold off drastically, if i remember spy and qqqs moved 15-20$ in afterhours…assignments galore 😆

I think you only need to close the short leg to avoid getting pinned. closing both might not get filled.

If your margins are deemed not sufficient to hold the shares lest if exercised, your broker will square it off for you an hour or two before market close. Even if spot price still dollars away from your inner wing.
