@armelleoliantus: every specialty/situation is different, but like seriously wouldn’t you want to take YOUR patients vitals to verify YOURSELF before giving out medication?? #healthcare #cna
So many CNA’s think this until they become a nurse. There is more to being a nurse than charting and passing meds 😭

I ain’t gonna hold you but as a nurse, and former tech, I’m always confused when I see these type of posts. When I was a tech, my role was to get the vitals. It never crossed my mind to ask a nurse why she couldn’t get them 😂. In contrast, I used to think that they only passed meds too until I became a nurse. Baby it’s a whole different ballgame I fear. There is way more to being a nurse than what you see.

(RN here) Had a patient one time during report say they didn’t feel right and asked us to take her BP, the other nurse looked at us and said “they’ll be coming around to take vitals shortly” (mind you we have monitors in our patients rooms) LIKE YOU CANT THROW THE BP CUFF ON HER AMD PRESS A BUTTON?! I was so irritated

I can do your job but you can't do mine. if I need to delegate something within your scope of practice to get other things done I will. that's the expectation of being a nursing assistant. signed a former CNA

I was a cna, pct and my job included vitals, blood sugars, we did lab draw as well. My other job was to report any abnormal vitals to my nurse. Now as a nurse. yes I do my vitals, get water, etc, etc. I work as a team with each and every department. why do you have a problem doing your job?????

CNA stands for certified nursing assistant. Part of your job is to assist the nurse. Routine vitals can be done by the aides while vitals needed prior to med administration are done by the nurse. I’m not sure what’s the confusion.

CNA before i came a nurse here and idkkkkk, we just got our assignments and did what needed to be done. Yall complain too much 🙄 nurses can do a CNA job… a CNA cant do a nurses job. yall want so much of the nurses help (which i dont mind) but who’s gonna help the nurse???? Also I get my own vitals bc nowadays cnas just make them up 😅 if you ask me the whole field itself is overworked and overwhelmed just pitch in if you can and save yourself the trouble.

To the nurses who are taking offense, you missed her point. Teamwork and communication are part of everyone’s job description, and that’s something you sold to your interviewer to get into the field. & every hospital has different policies. Recognize that you're wrong and be better. Or talk about how you appreciate when the techs do it for you.. Instead, you're writing paragraphs and thinkpieces and yet you know deep down, there's truth to what she's saying.

I have always said nurses can do your job you can't do theirs. Respectfully. It's all about perspective. If you want a job don't ask someone to work you out of it. Sorry not sorry. Nurses have a difficult job in every single aspect. Techs do as well but nurses are able to do all of it.

Yall r missing her point, as a tech, we have 20+ patients sometimes that were tryna get vitals on and every pt end up asking for smth else while ur in there and 20 vitals can take literally 2+ hours to get, if we’re behind and a nurse is in their pt room passing meds, it can’t hurt to throw a bp cuff on their arm and grab vitals since they are already there !! She never told the nurse to go around room to room grabbing vitals like a tech

Nurses can and should be able to take their patients’ vital signs. The challenge isn’t the skillit’s the workload. On a busy shift, taking every patient’s vitals on top of assessments, meds, charting, admissions, discharges, and everything else can be a lot. Teamwork makes all the difference.
