@tajapickett: Leaving an abusive relationship is often the most dangerous time for a survivor. While many people believe the abuse ends after someone leaves, for many survivors, it transforms. If you are in California and need legal assistance, here are a few organizations that may be able to help: 💜 California Partnership to End Domestic Violence (statewide resource) 💜 Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles 💜 Bay Area Legal Aid 💜 Your local Legal Aid organization 💜 Family Violence Appellate Project 💜 Local California Court Self-Help Centers #fyp #dvawareness
I am so very lucky to have left when I did. He didn’t know till I had keys, signed a lease & hired a task rabbit to move me. Changed my address to a P.O & had my mail forwarded for 3 mos. I’m in the wind!

I didn’t realize how much it still affected me so much even after leaving the cycle of abuse that I was in. The constant flinching when someone is just moving their hand, how much I shut down and get quiet when I hear yelling, the fear of never feeling good enough despite how many times people told me I was. The constant stalking of my social media accounts like u said & using our children as leverage to continue to hurt us because they physically can’t anymore it sucks and still something I deal with 7 years later.

How would you respond to people who believe that talking about these topics is just continuing to see yourself as a victim or living in the past instead of moving forward with your life? I don't mean for my question to sound rude I’m genuinely curious about your perspective. Thank you for sharing your story.

I commented on your YT video a while back. You inspired me to share my story on there too. So sorry you’re still experiencing this. I’d look into filing a civil lawsuit. It’s challenging at times but it feels so good to take my power back.

The misuse of the legal system is as heartbreaking because why waste time and resources when there are people who truly need the help

It is so true. They will drag things out in court as you fight for justice, call you out of your name under their breath, make faces at you, put their middle finger up discreetly, lie and deny!!! I experienced all that unfortunately. The “man” who abused me even wrote (in bold black numbers) the date we were married on the back of his jail shirt for me to see as they escorted him into the courtroom!! Currently, he’s been found guilty and convicted of all 5 charges and is now a felon (all dv related) yet the judge decided to let him out of jail after 7 months even when he’s heard the threats of him ending my life when he gets out of jail!! Of course the abuser is now using the fact that he’s free due to this broken justice system to puff his chest and minimize his abuse… hes trying to fight me in court AGAIN to gain access to my gym! He’s trying to convince the judge that the gym I go to frequently should not be included in the extended OP because he wants to go there and it’s not fair to limit his freedom. He doesn’t want me “weaponizing the OP” against him. Even jail time/ them being found guilty won’t stop these abusers. They will continue to get worse and will try every angle to gain more control over their victims/survivors. They get joy from picking at us. Everyone please be safe out here 💜💜💜.

Going through that now. You’d think he’d put that energy, money, and time into his child.

It truly doesn’t stop. I thought once the kids turned adults it would but no and now with a grandchild it’s a continued nightmare. You can’t be silent. That’s the hardest lesson. I thought my silence was taking the high road but it turned me into road kill. I’m legally taking steps to hold my abuser accountable. The biggest thing on my side is YEARS of a specific pattern of behavior that is undeniable. If there’s a silver lining to my silence that’s it…the EVIDENCE. Wish me luck.
