As part of the standardised and rigorous Recruitment Plan deployed nationwide, all applications are undergoing a comprehensive Vetting Stage. This phase enables the GID to interface with applicants, verify the authenticity of their documents, and ensure alignment with the Department’s Security Sector Reform strategies and Strategic Plan. During the exercise, the Recruitment Board intercepted approximately forty (40) fraudulent WASSCE results submitted by applicants. Additionally, more than one hundred (100) applicants have been directed to provide their official WASSCE certificates for further confirmation. Preliminary findings indicate the involvement of a Ghanaian national, a Senior Civil Servant in the Education Sector with over 20 years of residence in The Gambia, at the centre of the document forgery scheme. The alleged individual was invited to the GID Training School in Tanji for questioning, where he admitted to and corroborated the accusations made by some affected applicants. He had been released after questioning, pending further investigation. To strengthen the verification process, the Recruitment Board has established an official channel to authenticate all submitted results directly with schools. This approach follows initial engagements with the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to support result verification. However, due to financial constraints related to WAEC’s verification charges, the Committee instituted internal verification mechanisms to uphold standards and ensure that only qualified and competent individuals are enlisted. As of the time of this report, verification of the remaining results is ongoing with school authorities, and any results still unverified will be forwarded to WAEC before the process is concluded. The Gambia Immigration Department strongly warns all prospective recruits that it will not, under any circumstances, accept the enlistment of individuals based on false declarations. Such practices undermine the fundamental principles guiding the GID’s ongoing reform efforts.
