I honestly don’t know if I could ever do it (not that I’ve been asked). Like yeah, it would be great to make some actual money from this, but I don’t want it to be so shady and fake

I also think this may be happening with attorneys when there are high profile legal cases (or even just stories with legal elements) you will have to”attorneys” pop up with takes.

it doesn't have to be for money. any exchange in kind also counts. so something like a rec for a rec, each of these has a possible monetary value so they get treated just the same.
but the music industry isn't the victim here. the artists who never get discovered are.

Been supporting young artists for FREE for about a decade. Have never accepted a cent from anyone - IG, TT, artists, managers, agents, & others keep offering my companies money, but I refuse to accept any money, which is probably why casting directors/producers trust me when I send them an artist - several of whom are now the biggest artists in the world. Maybe one day we’ll accept money, but we want to first build the trust & reputation for truly independent & honest referrals. ✌🏾

You should do a deep dive on how some other artists that appeared to blow up natural really blow up. Like Forrest Frank, Jvke ect.. because I feel like many of them seem organic but really are not.

I’m a small influencer and I never knew this was a thing! I knew people danced to songs on here for profit but not the rest! There are two YouTubers that I suspect are doing this because they go to so many concerts a year and they seem to favor certain releases over others. One even had Benson Boone make a cameo in the video. There’s just no way it wasn’t sponsored despite there not being any disclosure that it was an ad.

This recently happened with My Chemical Romance seemingly doing an influencer campaign for a cover of Common People by Pulp, and I wish people had read your article 😭 The band wasn’t criticized very heavily, but the influencers got a lot of backlash for following the instructions of the campaign, which were tone deaf regarding classism or maybe even deliberate rage bait. In the face of the backlash, some of the influencers disclosed it was an ad, after the fact, but weren’t really believed. The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. As if a stadium selling rock band’s marketing team is above using an influencer campaign. It’s very naive on the part of MCR fans. Discrete marketing like this is absolutely everywhere, I don’t really care at least for simple videos just using the audio, especially being empowered with the knowledge of how common it is. I just focus on if I like the song. The music industry is so bleak right now, especially for smaller artists, I can’t be mad. For reviews and recommendations though, I’m definitely more irate at the lack of disclosure
