At the core, it’s really just a cone shape with a flat disk folding outward around the top edge. Once that simple construction is clear, the petals stop feeling random and start feeling organized around a believable form. The inside of the flower is where directional linework becomes important. The curved radiating lines should follow the trumpet-like form bending inward toward the center, almost like contour lines wrapping around the surface. Then once you understand the construction, you can rotate the flowers at different angles across the page because you’re no longer copying one single view. You’re building the flower from its underlying forms. That’s one of the biggest shifts in drawing: Seeing simplified geometry underneath complex subjects. Once you understand the forms, almost any object becomes easier to invent, rotate, and construct from imagination.
