@gis4gina: Replying to @LettieK People keep saying Caroline isn't very likeable, and I'm just thinking... if I had gone through all that and then someone asked me to make biscuits the next morning? I'd be the villain 😂😂😅 #littlehouseontheprairie #littlehousenetflix #carolineingalls #littlehouseontheprairiefans #womenslabor

Anyone who thinks this version of Caroline is too crabby has clearly never read the books. The head writer of the 1970s TV series was also its leading man and he wrote his on screen wife as passive and endlessly fawning for his own ego.

I didn't find her unlikable at all! She held that family together in a scary and unknown place.

I LOVE that she has a spine. The first episode had me cheering her on. He deserved to have to make his own breakfast

Book Caroline hated being on the prairie. She missed her family, she missed having towns and amenities nearby. She wanted schools and church for her daughters. She was a bit racist and didn’t like native Americans or what she termed rough people. She was patient and worked hard but she wasn’t perfect by any means and the 70’s show Ma was too angelic to be believable imo.

My hot take about the new show is everyone complaining about it is too nostalgic for the show from the 1970s. which yes it was good, but it strayed so far from the books and made Michael Landon's version of Pa look like this hero and Caroline also the sweet devoted wife. Where the new show feels inspired by the books and shows them in a more realistic way as they handle the hardships of being homesteaders

They are complaining that she's not Michael Landon's vision of a 1950s housewife version of a pioneer woman.

Being an adult is realizing that Pa was a terrible husband and father who was constantly dragging his family into financial difficulties and hardship because of his “wandering foot.” Caroline must have had the bloody patience of Job because I’d have been ready to fight that man.

in the books there's a chapter where Pa goes away and there are wolves or something outside the house and Pa hadnt come home yet and its night and Ma sits in her rocking chair all night gripping the gun in front of the door to make sure nothing entered that house and hurt her girls. that women was a lady but she was also tough as nails and the first line of defense when Pa wasnt home.

Laura hadn’t seen her mother in over 20 years when she died in 1924… and Laura was kind of judgy and insufferable too…

I personally thought this iteration of Caroline was a baddie! She handled stuff when Charles was away. She proved to him every day she did not need him but wanted him in her life.

I think she’s playing it very real. She lived on edge 100% of the time on the prairie. We can’t even imagine the hardships faced in living on the prairie like they did.

I can't imagine being PG and being dragged across the prairie. IMO, Charles was a very selfish person.

In real life, she didn’t want to go traipsing all over the prairie to begin with. Her husband wanted to move around. And some cases, he had to move around because he owed people money and he couldn’t pay them.

The only issue I have with Caroline's character in the Netflix series is that the only characters that are ever against the Ingalls and the main Osage family coming into contact and befriending each other are Caroline and the Osage mother, White Sun. This demonises the women out of everyone, making Caroline seem like the only racist one, and painting White Sun as unreasonable (and may I say it, hysterical) at stopping Good Eagle from making friends and studying with the Ingalls. It paints their husbands as smarter and more enlightened than them, and the whole thing reeks of misogyny.

I didn’t grow up with the TV series. I lived in the middle of nowhere on the Canadian prairie and no one had cable. If it wasn’t on CBC, we couldn’t watch it. So I grew up reading the books over and over. Caroline wasn’t super nice in the books. Remember what she said about Indians? “The only good Indian is a dead one”.

Pa was awful dragging her & the kids out, I only dislike her when she decides to hero worship him for no grounded reason.

I’m so confused by the desperate attachment people have to the Michael Landon show. I watched it as a kid and it was always seemed to swing between being absolutely boring and complete camp. As an adult, having read Prairie Fired and knowing a)that Pa was a nightmare and b)learning that Landon was a nightmare, I’m more than happy to see a new adaptation.

and in context he left them there alone all night with wolves. Who knows who could have stumbled upon them. She has a right to be mad. I recommend reading Prarrie Fires..it gives a much more realistic look at the family.
