My mom died of AIDS because a man didn’t disclose his status to her. Looking clean has absolutely nothing to do with having HIV or AIDS. I’m a huge supporter and advocate for people who have HIV and AIDS.

It’s because of movies depict people with AIDS as sickly and with sores keeping the stigma around. And you’re right it’s a backhand compliment like you’re pretty to be fat.

Yes it is backhanded. I have a similar story though I wasn’t infected because my ex was undetectable but he did not disclose he was 24 and heterosexual and “clean” HIV does not discriminate and removing the stigma helps stop the spread.

I think ppl hear HIV and automatically correlate it to how it looks in the 80’s, it’s ignorant bc it’s not the death sentence it used to be. Much love and blessings to you!!
