How is the actors speaking English a criticism? Did you want to teach a cast to speak a thousands of years old dead language?

Mythology is what 1000 people believed in throughout the history of a nation. That makes it, sometimes, more accurate of the general population than actual history books that usually focus on 1 person/event. The odyssey by Homer is greek culture and Nolan REFUSING to cast even one greek on the whole production is offending to greek people that is part of their culture. If Nolan did something similar but with Asian or African culture you would be fuming. Stop excusing him

Personally, I just feel like Christopher.Nolan should stay far away from adapting things cause he turns them into the most bland generic blockbuster versipns of themselves, like hes best at think piece sci fi but awful at anything fantastical because he makes it so bland and gray and generic like with batman which was carried purely by its action and actors rather than actual writing and directing. the odyssey is gonna be another troy which is just as generic and corporate as this shit and a legend that has existed for years deserves more than corporate slop designed to give christopher nolan more money that he doesnt need.

Its not just historical accuracy, its about the cultural significance that was also rooted in religion and while the religion has changed the significance of it is deep in greek culture which is why so many Greeks are peeved at it. Plus its not even being shown in Greece for the opening tour

contradictions aside i'm still mad that it's aesthetic take on ancient age greece is just ugly 😭 like the odyssey is a grand story with magic and epic themes and could be so beautiful but the concept of "past= dark and dirty" makes it incredibly bland and borish compared to the incredible creative potential

remember when teacher used to always ask us, "what did the author mean by this" then they provide the most random BS interpretation.....this video feels exactly like that.

Brody.da.goat :
Fun fact: in Ancient Greece, there was an informal, secondary way to say father that would be similar to today’s “dad.”

sadie 🔮✨ :
actually the reason for the informal language is because he’s using the Emily Wilson translation! i would suggest reading her forward for a deeper understanding but basically she made an effort to translate it into realistic modern english instead of super flowery wording because the original greek wording wouldn’t have been seen as fancy like how we see it now.

Linc :
Homers odyssey is an epic poem told only through word of mouth in its beginnings, it’s literally supposed to change and meld with the cultural zeitgeist, we have entire children’s games dedicated to how verbal sharing evolves over generations of repeats, and Nolan is expressing exactly that, using language relevant to our culture, same as Travis Scott being the bard character and how the armour has changed to fit our cultural understanding of what is imposing, intimidating and protective
