it's interesting because i think all of these characteristics are also qualities of patriarchy and capitalism and i think ultimately are all just a form of control/domination/hierarchy/etc. that is currently manifesting as patriarchy or white supremacy or capitalism or whatever because those are what dictate the current zeitgeist we live in. I don't know that any of these qualities actually arise from these structures so much as the structures arise from these qualities, but in any instance both the qualities and the structures perpetuate each other in an endless feedback loop so it seems pretty necessary address both if we want to be free of them.

I think about the right to comfort everyday. I’ve talked to multiple therapists about it as a white person who has consistently been encouraged to “unplug from the news,” as if my well-being exists in a vacuum somehow separate from the people suffering. The healthy, sane response to this reality is for all of us to be in the streets, on our knees, wailing in communal agony, but instead we exist in the delusion of comfort. It not only allows the continued suffering of fellow humans, it locks us into a complex, unconscious suffering of our own.
