i feel like it’s very insensitive to use the “people have been cosleeping forever” argument as it just enforces survivor bias you quite literally do not think it will be you until it is. the millions of dead babies due to bed sharing is enough on its own to draw me far away from it. and those mothers would’ve undoubtedly loved their babies. also not the biggest fan of the whole babies crave closeness and need you so this is why i do it argument either as whether it be on purpose or not, makes it seem as though mums who choose not to bed share don’t really love their babies that much or aren’t as connected to them. i’ve also felt dangerous sleep deprivation multiple times since having my daughter who is now 5months old in 2 days, but never have i risked her life over my own. so again, it’s not just a blanket statement of if you’ve been sleep deprived you’ll do it. i would love nothing more than for my baby to sleep in my bed but it will just not be an option because the risks outweigh all benefits. i appreciate this could come across as judgy and rude but i’m simply stating how it comes across when you use these as your reasonings x

Arguing that co-sleeping and breastfeeding are an obvious pairing is so inaccurate. Co-sleeping is making a choice around risk. I exclusively breastfed 2 babies for 18 months and never once co-slept because I couldn’t rationalise the risks.

Cosleeping is incredibly dangerous. Personally I wouldn’t put my baby at risk like that

Sorry fair enough if you choose it for your family but spreading this message is harmful - babies die from cosleeping.

I think were the only mamal that gives birth and immediately reject our babies. co sleeping done in the right way safe way is brilliant for raising children with secure attachments and the ability to be independent knowing you are there for them 🥰

Ashamed to say I was a bit judgy about co sleeping, then had my baby and was humbled so fast 🤣🤣 learnt my lesson tho I don’t judge any parenting choices by anyone else anymore, we’re all just out here trying to do our best 😅

I find it safer. I had my boy in his crib once. That night I woke up and he was too hot! Got him straight out and went straight back to Co sleeping.

I never did because I knew I would regret it later on down the line and they won’t sleep alone ( and the fact I might literally kill him )

You can accidentally suffocate your baby. Safest way to sleep is ABC- alone, on their back, and in a crib. Period. I personally know someone who rolled onto their baby and she was never the same after that. She didn’t know she had moved either.

this needs to be discussed more. most families who end up cosleeping do it unplanned from sleep deprivation which is so dangerous. whereas if it was talked about more we would know how to do it safely where we can take the necessary steps before we are sleep deprived. thanks for sharing cuz this is the reality of parenting.

Professionals really should start teaching new mums safe co-sleeping habits so that by the time you’ve reach sleep deprivation you can safely co-sleep. We’ve been doing it from week 2 and she’s now 13 months and still co-sleeps. She’s also slept through the night since 4 months old and she’s breastfed. Occasionally she’ll help herself at night but it doesn’t really wake me to a point of a disturbed sleep 🤷🏼‍♀️

Safe cosleeping is no more dangerous than not cosleeping - there’s SO much fear mongering and stigma around cosleeping, and it’s only risky when it’s practiced in an unsafe manner. Following safe sleep guidelines, it can be incredibly safe

I am very against co sleep my baby is 6 weeks old and I’ve never done it I am way too scared me and my partner both move alot in our sleep and we have a dog who sleeps at the bottom of the bed so it’s not safe at all and I do not want him to get use to being in our bed because I’m back at work when he’s 6 months old and will need my sleep 😅. No hate to anybody that does co sleep it’s your child your choice but it’s not for me .

Co-sleeping is so heavily stigmatized, but babies are biologically wired to want to be close to their mums. If your baby happily sleeps in a cot all night, that’s amazing. But not every baby is the same. Sleep deprivation is no joke during the new born trenches. We’ve all said we won’t co sleep and some how end up doing it

Also what you said about the rolling thing. It’s actually a thing, my midwife told me out hormones help prevent us from rolling if we’re breastfeeding x

We didn’t co-sleep but only because I was worried I’d roll onto her and my boyfriend has a habit of rolling onto me and not waking up 😅

At the start I was on and off co sleeping as she absolutely hated her crib😭 but eventually she got used to it and now she sleeps a dream, she’s 9 weeks now the only time she gets in my bed is 6am every morning after her morning bottle but I’m awake for the day then and she goes back to sleep x

I did it for a couple nights but it’s just to scary for me, having sleep outweighed the more scary things that can happen. Even if u think u won’t move and ur half awake anything can happen. I know it’s so hard my baby didn’t sleep for a year and a half but he was safe in his cot and I just had to accept that xx
