expanding to 48 teams wasn't a mess in the end it'll always be the best teams competing in the Knockouts they'll still have to qualify and it's good for smaller nations

they still have to qualify and get out the group stage for a chance to win. this would help teams make a debut which could lead to upsets. obv money is the incentive but why wouldnt it be mutually beneficial

To be fair if we already expanded it to 48 teams, 64 is a cleaner format: 16 groups and the top 2 gets out, then round of 32 (so no 3rd place BS complicating things). No extra matches needed. I'm just worried that the extra spots go to countries with the population of 10 instead of China, India, Bangladesh, Italy, Ukraine etc.

64 seems fine but it’s gotta be the limit. Because 48 teams and then taking 2/3rds of the best 3rd place teams is kinda stupid. And I know it is fueled by greed to an extent, but I’m not going to complain about more international soccer on the highest stage. It might make the round of 32 a little less but it will make the final group stage games more interesting and we could also get more Cape Verdes. March madness was best at just 64 teams, why not the biggest tournament on earth?

Expansion has been horrible for the world cup. Having small nations like South Korea allowed in just to get grouped by actual competitors is a disgrace to football 😹

he probably wouldn't have gotten the moments from Cape Varde and Curaçao if it wasn't for the 48 team format. 64 would be too much, but it should be left to the players to decide in the end

Being employed and trying to watch 4 games a day was more a hassle than enjoyable at times. If they’re going to do this at least get rid of the group stage and go directly to knock out rounds
