I am probably an outlier on this one as a 'girl' - so don't take too much significance from what I am saying and apply it to other girls. I am also an INTJ, so that may play some influence on the way I experience the world and like things (INTJ is a rare personality period, but especially among girls) - so take this with a grain of salt. But I have never liked getting flowers. I always thought it was morbid, and an omen that things would be beautiful for a hot moment and then die - because they were cut flowers. I always told guys if they were to ever get me flowers at all, they should be potted, growing, alive flowers that I could transplant outside. Or better yet a small fruit tree sapling. Something practical or alive or both. Again - I am completwly an outlier as a girl - so take this with a grain of salt. Just understand there are probably at least a few other weird girls out there like me who think cut, dying flowers are a morbid gift

That is quite a old fashioned ideal in Europe. 17th into 20th centuries the symbolic use of flowers was very prevalent between men and women, floriography was found in paintings as a gift. Some people still do this nowadays, but more in consideration for wedding bouquets. Very thoughtful. I'm still awaiting a bunch of dark red carnations.
