@mistithorpe: 🚨 JUST IN: Gary Siders Jr.’s Attorney Files Motion for Gag Order ⚠️ Before you believe today’s Siders headlines… let’s look at what was actually filed in court. Today, I pulled the court filings myself after seeing headlines suggesting there was a gag order in the Siders case. Here’s what the court docket actually shows: ✅ A Motion for Gag Order was filed by Gary Siders Jr.’s attorney. ✅ A Proposed Order was also filed with the motion. What the docket does NOT currently show is that the judge has granted the request. That distinction matters. A proposed order is simply the order the defense is asking the judge to sign. Judges can sign it, modify it, deny it, or schedule a hearing before making a decision. So why is the defense asking for a gag order? According to the motion, Gary Siders Jr.’s attorney argues that repeated public statements made by government officials have created a substantial risk that his client will be unable to receive a fair trial. The filing specifically cites comments made by the Ohio Attorney General, the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office, and other public officials describing the case as: • “Pure evil.” • Children living in horrific conditions. • “Most of our livestock was kept in better conditions than the children.” • Children who “looked like almost feral animals.” • Statements that some of the children couldn’t speak. • The scene being described as one of the worst investigators had ever encountered. The attorney argues those statements have been repeated by news outlets across the country before any evidence has been presented in court. The motion also points to comments made by the Vinton County Clerk of Courts and argues that continued public commentary from officials could influence potential jurors. Whether you agree with the defense or not, the filing raises an important constitutional question: At what point does informing the public become prejudicial publicity? Here’s my question for you… If you were a defense attorney in a nationally watched case… Would you publicly push back against information you believe is inaccurate? Or would you stay completely silent and fight the case only in court? I’d really like to hear your thoughts. ⸻ 🏡 Mortgage Loan Officer by day. 📌 UPDATE: Shortly after I recorded this, the judge granted the gag order. I’ll leave this up because it explains why the defense requested it, but the motion has now been granted. I’ll have a full update coming next.
